THE Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, yesterday received the Nehanda Nyakasikana Leadership Excellence Award from Kamaradi Legacy, an accredited multimedia company, for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the development of Zimbabwe.

The award celebrates the legacy of Mbuya Nehanda, a powerful spirit medium and national heroine of Zimbabwe, who took on the colonisers to liberate her people.

The award honours and remembers Mbuya Nehanda’s bravery, vision and dedication to her people.

Accepting the award at her Defence House offices in Harare, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said the honour showed that Zimbabwe’s future is safe.

“The management of this organisation, which is composed of young people who were not part of the struggle, saw it fit to recognise me. This is a reminder and source of pride to us because when we were fighting in the bush, we were also young people. We fought the war and liberated our country when we were young and now we are defending the revolution,” she said.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said it was pleasing that in the Second Republic, there are more young people who are identifying with the war of liberation and appreciating the sacrifices that were made by their parents to liberate the country.

Kamaradi Legacy executive director, Mr Pardon Mangwende, said Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri played a crucial role in the struggle for the independence of the country, and post-independence Zimbabwe’s development and women empowerment efforts.

“We are presenting the Nehanda Nyakasikana Leadership Excellence Award Shield to the Honourable Minister of Defence. The award recognises her outstanding leadership and dedication to the people of Zimbabwe,” Mr Mangwende said.

The award, he said, also recognises those who have followed in Mbuya Nehanda’s footsteps, displaying boldness, bravery and passion as they work for positive change and a brighter future for Zimbabwe.

“The award is a symbol of strength, resilience and hope for generations to come. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, compassion and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others,” Mr Mangwende said.

Kamaradi Legacy was founded by the children of liberation struggle veterans, with a core mission to preserve and promote the legacy of the liberation struggle, Zanu PF and Zimbabwe. Through webcasting television channels, the company showcases Zimbabwe’s beauty and potential to local and international audiences, marketing the country’s attractions both domestically and globally.

Previously, the company presented the Munhumutapa Leadership Excellence Award to President Mnangagwa, the Chaminuka Leadership Excellence Award to Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga and the Induna Matshe Leadership Excellence Award to Vice President Kembo Mohadi.
