INFORMATION Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has called on the private sector to establish Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) with Government and set up technology hubs.
In a keynote address at the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) 2022 Hackathon in Mutare last week, Dr Muswere said tech-hubs provide innovators with a platform to come up with ideas to make the ongoing industrialisation efforts efficient.
“For there to be meaningful progress concerning the development of these tech-hubs, there is a need for meaningful funding to provide the platform for innovators to flourish. In short, tech-hubs are breeding grounds providing innovators with the best possible platform to make their ideas a reality. Ideas to make the industry more efficient, ideas to make processes more productive and ideas to make systems more resilient.”
Dr Muswere said the Hackathon is part of the country’s ICT innovation drive administered by POTRAZ.
“It is thus always such a pleasure to be part of such events that seek to contribute positively to national development initiatives especially now when the Government is grappled with projects and programs aimed at putting our economy back on track.”
The POTRAZ Hackathon was also hailed as an event that creates employment in the ICT sector.
“This resonates well with the National Development Strategy One (NDS1) and calls for the development and implementation of home-grown solutions to the country’s problem as well as the creation of employment by local entrepreneurs,” said Dr Muswere.
