Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a manager at Seigneury Mine in Saruwe, Mashonaland West last week.
National police spokesperson Assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Admire Tasaranarwo (29) and Talent Meza (21).
The two were part of a group of 40 people who attacked Robert James Chilcott (68) when he made an unannounced visit to the mine to confirm reports of the theft of gold ore by syndicates working in cahoots with his workers.
“The two, together with several other suspects who are still at large, conspired to steal gold ore from the mine and hired a Nissan UD truck registration number ADK 2362 to transport the loot. The victim clashed with the gang as he made an unannounced visit to the mine to confirm reports of theft of gold ore by syndicates working in cahoots with his workers. 40 suspects attacked Chilcott indiscriminately all over the body leading to his death. The suspects shared the ore amongst six syndicates and dispersed,” he said.
Asst Comm Nyathi said police had recovered some gold ore and two buckets of gold concentrate which were being milled at Zheng-Zim Investments, Calton 45 Mill in Chegutu and the Nissan UD truck used by the suspects to commit the offence.
He said more arrests were pending in the case.
In a similar incident, police have also arrested three suspects for the murder of Bevan Peters in January.
Clever Dube (29), Brian Mutandwa (22) and Jabulani Ngwenya (25) confessed to the murder which they committed together with Thembelani Ncube who is still at large, and are helping police with investigations.
Asst Comm Nyathi also said 11 other suspects were recently arrested for various crimes including armed robbery, possession of diamonds without a licence, stealing copper tubes as well as possessing mbanje.
Crick Glen Mbongiseni Mathema (25), Simelwenkosi Dube (26) and Brendon Gumbo (24) were arrested on September 12 in connection with an armed robbery case that occurred at the 15km-peg along the Bulawayo-Harare road on September 7, 2021.
The trio, together with Henry Mutisi and four other suspects who are still at large, side swiped the complainant’s Honda Fit vehicle with an unregistered Toyota Wish, thereby causing her to stop.
They produced a gun and robbed her of US$32 078, which belonged to her employer.
