A 27-YEAR-OLD man died after he fell 60 metres into a shaft and landed on a dynamite which then exploded reducing his body beyond recognition in Filabusi.
Melusi Tshuma, a small scale miner at Kent Mine died on Wednesday last week.
Mines and Mining Development Ministry officials as well as the police are investigating circumstances leading to Tshuma’s death.
When The Chronicle news crew visited the mine at about 1PM on Thursday, Mines Ministry officials and police officers who were at the scene declined to comment.
Mining has been suspended at the mine pending the conclusion of investigations.
Kent mine manager Amon Sibanda said details of what transpired in the mine were still sketchy but he was told that Tshuma slipped back into the mine shaft as he was coming out after placing the explosives.
He said Tshuma’s body was rendered beyond recognition by the exploding dynamite.
Acting police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Assistant Inspector Nkosilathi Sibanda was not immediately available for comment.
