MINER FOUND DEAD IN CABIN: Axe strike behind ear turns fatal

B-Metro Reporter

A MINE worker was found dead in his cabin with a deep wound behind the ear and a suspect has since been arrested after admitting to the brutal attack.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the murder and said it happened on 22 November at Happy Valley West Mine.

A 23 year old worker went to wake his colleague Xolani Ncube for lunch but instead stumbled upon a scene of horror.

“He noticed that the now deceased was lying in an awkward position and there were some blood stains on his mattress,” said Insp Msebele.

Shocked, he alerted the mine owner who also inspected the cabin. “He noted that the now deceased had passed on. He further observed that the deceased had a deep cut behind the left ear,” said Insp Msebele.

Police investigations revealed that Xolani had been involved in a misunderstanding with fellow worker Butholezwe Ndlovu (31) of Romney Park.

“The accused person was later arrested and admitted to have struck the now deceased with an axe,” said Insp Msebele.

The body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post mortem.

Insp Msebele urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully
