occurred last week on Wednesday around 2pm at Vision Mine.
He identified the deceased as Nkosikhona Ndlovu.
He said on the fateful day Ndlovu, who was employed as an underground mine worker, entered the shaft with his colleague Methuli Ncube. It is understood that he wanted to show Ncube how best he could reinforce the shaft’s walls.
“During the process the walls collapsed on them with one large stone falling on Ndlovu’s stomach and he passed out,” said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
“His work mate Ncube escaped with minor injuries and alerted the other workers who were outside the shaft.
“They (workers) then managed to retrieve Ndlovu from the debris,” he said.
Asst Insp Ngwenya said Ndlovu was rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he was pronounced dead on admission.
He said investigations into the death of Ndlovu were underway.
