Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) yesterday conferred new ranks to three Deputy Commissioner-Generals who were promoted from the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioners last week.
The three are Deputy Comm Generals Manetswa Christina Manhivi, Granisia Musango and Social Danga.
Conferring the badges, Acting Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Cde Kazembe Kazembe applauded ZPCS for implementing gender equality policies which are crucial in development of the nation.
“From the uniformed services, the ZPCS has now two females at chief of staff level, thus breaking record in achieving gender balance within the ZPCS senior management structure.
“This has been long on our wish list to see more women rising from the lower to higher managerial levels and it is through hard work that the three senior officers were elevated to such managerial positions, he said.
Minister Kazembe said Government was considering an amnesty to decongest prison population.
“As a ministry, we will continue to lobby Government to have additional prisons built in an effort to create more space and also to have modern prison institutions in place.”
Speaking at the same occasion Permanent Secretary of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary affairs Mrs Virginia Mabhiza called on the newly promoted senior officers to work hard and address the challenges which are on the ground.
ZPCS Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu said the promotion of the three senior members will give them the opportunity to transform the organisation and nation at large.
“I urge you to continue to be vigilant and well focused because you are now facing with more responsibilities.
“We may have our individual differences when we discharge our duties but let us put the differences aside and speak with one voice for the betterment of our country,” he said.
