Minister of State for Matabeleland South Province, Cde Abedinico Ncube has donated groceries to Gwanda Provincial Hospital which were bought using proceeds from this year’s Independence Ball. The province raised $1,200 from the Ball.

The foodstuffs included mealie-meal, sugar, cooking oil, sugar beans and salt,

Handing over the donation, Cde Ncube said it was everyone’s duty to assist vulnerable groups such as the critically ill, orphans and the elderly.

“We’re very grateful to all those who contributed to this fund which enabled us to assist the patients at this hospital,” he said.

Gwanda Provincial Hospital acting medical superintendent, Dr Jeremy Marume said the donation came at a time when limited financial resources were making it difficult to provide enough food to the patients.

He said patients on medication required a balanced diet which at times was compromised by financial constraints.
