Minister Moyo launches restructuring manual tonight

The manual is a working document meant to ensure accountability, transparency and credibility in the restructuring process.

In an interview, Minister Moyo’s personal advisor Mr Thabang Nare yesterday said all was set for the launch of the manual.

“All is set for the launch of the restructuring procedures manual. The Minister of State Enterprises and Parastatals will launch it at Crowne Plaza in Harare tomorrow evening.

“It is an in-house document within the Ministry of State Enterprises and Parastatals and that is why the minister will launch it,” he said, adding that the State Enterprises and Restructuring Agency (SERA) crafted the document.

Mr Nare said Finance Minister Tendai Biti, who is also the chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Commercialisation and Privatisation of Parastatals, would give remarks after the launch.

“The event will be attended by chief executive officers, managers and general managers of the parastatals including the first 10 that Government prioritised for restructuring in 2010,” he said.

NetOne, Agribank, the National Railways of Zimbabwe, Cold Storage Company and the Grain Marketing Board are some of the first 10 entities that Government in 2010 prioritised for restructuring.

Other Government officials from the line ministries of the parastatals are also expected to attend the event.

Last year, Minister Moyo said although Government had approved the framework for the restructuring      of public entities incorporating privatisation, commercialisation and restructuring, the process was slow.

The slow pace of restructuring was attributed partly to lack of commitment by some line ministries and management of SEPs.
