Minister Muswere opens ZUJ Indaba

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere has opened a media indaba that seeks to add impetus to the quest for media growth and sustainability in the country.
The indaba was organised by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and is being attended by representatives from Government, media stakeholders, media owners, labour bodies and journalists from local media houses.
Minister Muswere outlined inroads made in improving the media climate in the country under the Second Republic, including improved safety and the security of journalists.
He also said the Government supported the birth of a National Employment Council for the media industry for the purposes of improving salaries and working conditions for scribes.
Dr Muswere also urged the media to report objectively and truthfully and to contribute to the attainment of Vision 2030.
Speaking at the indaba, ZUJ president Mr George Maponga paid tribute to the Second Republic for its open-door policy and willingness to discuss and solve problems afflicting the media sector.
Mr Maponga lamented poor salaries and working conditions in the media sector. He said this has caused a dip in professionalism and precipitated brain drain in the industry.
