MIDLANDS Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Owen Ncube, has implored Zanu-PF members in Gokwe South District to be wary of opportunists ahead of the ruling party’s District Coordinating Committee (DCC) elections.

Zanu-PF has begun preparations for the DCC elections as part of its restructuring exercise after the term of the current members expired last year.

The party is yet to announce the date for the elections, and in some areas jostling for positions has already started.

Speaking during a “thank you rally” in Gokwe South district on Monday, Cde Ncube who is also the Zanu-PF Midlands Provincial Secretary for Security, said there are some people who want to grab positions in the DCCs yet during the 2023 harmonised elections’ campaign period they did not feature.

“We have people who want positions in the DCCs, but they were not there during the campaign period.

They only want to reappear now and cause unnecessary confusion. We are not tolerating that,” he said.

Cde Ncube urged party members to vote for people who were instrumental in ensuring victory for Zanu PF during last year’s harmonised elections.

“You should vote for people you know that are dedicated party cadres, people who were instrumental in the run-up to the elections in which people voted for President Mnangagwa.

Here in Gokwe South, our President and the party won resoundingly and all our MPs won and that is why we are here today to thank you,” he said.

All the five Gokwe South constituencies, which include Gokwe Central, Gokwe Kana, Gokwe Sesame, Gokwe Sengwa and Gokwe Mafungautsi, were won by Zanu-PF.

Before the DCC elections, Zanu-PF announced that the party should be strengthened through cell, branch, and district restructuring exercises.

“Now let us go to all our 123 districts in Gokwe South district and all our constituencies and restructure our cells and branches. We need to ensure that our party is strong from the cell upwards,” said Cde Ncube.

“There is no one who is bigger than the party and in all we do, let us put the party ahead of any individual.”

Cde  Ncube said Government has put in place measures to avert starvation in the wake of the looming El Nino-induced drought.

“President Mnangagwa has put in place measures so that no Zimbabwean dies of hunger.

I know you also have done what is required of you, so that you start receiving relief maize through the social welfare department,” he said.

“Let me also warn councillors against diverting relief food for personal use or hijacking the programme because the long arm of the law will catch up with them.

“There are some councillors, who are yet to go back to the people since they were elected into office, you should go back to the people and listen to their concerns and address them.”
