Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Judith Ncube officially welcomed delegates today at a strategic planning workshop focused on the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ (ZDF) performance review against 2024 targets.

In her opening remarks, she emphasised the significance of this workshop as a pivotal step in the army’s commitment to assess its achievements and identify areas for improvement.

Minister Ncube highlighted that the workshop aims not only to analyse past performance but also to establish future targets. “By reflecting on our history, we will be better equipped for the challenges ahead,” she said, urging the army to engage constructively in the process. She expressed confidence that, together, they can develop a robust strategic plan.

Following Ncube, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Aaron Nhepera, addressed the attendees, revealing that the past five days have resulted in a revised long-term strategic plan alongside the 2025 annual plan.

As the workshop progressed, Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri took to the podium for her keynote address. She reiterated the workshop’s role in fostering self-introspection and future planning, aligning with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

Muchinguri-Kashiri acknowledged the ZDF’s significant contributions during the recent Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit, reinforcing the importance of military engagement in regional affairs. She also noted that the workshop would craft performance contracts for both the Permanent Secretary and the Minister, ensuring accountability and strategic alignment moving forward.
