Councillors in Bulilima District in Matabeleland South can now effectively serve their wards after the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Mangaliso Ndlovu, in partnership with MVIMI Safaris, donated 17 motorbikes.

In addition to the motorbikes, they also donated two vehicles, a tipper truck and 325 litres of paint all valued at more than US$127 000.

Handing over the donation Cde Ndlovu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bulilima East, said the motorbikes will enable the councillors to effectively serve their wards.

“Councillors’ mobility obviously brings expectations for improved service delivery and I must say that after today, the feedback from the people you serve should be positive. I have no doubt that you will not disappoint,” he said.

Minister Ndlovu said plans to buy motorbikes for councillors have been on cards for four years.
He urged council management to ensure the vehicles are put to good use.

“Bulilima district pioneered the CAMPFIRE programme in the early 1990s to ensure sustainable utilisation of its natural resources like wildlife.

The CAMPFIRE philosophy under Community Based Natural Resources Management was premised on the understanding that communities living adjacent to and affected by wildlife should be the ones benefiting from the utilisation of these resources,” said Cde Ndlovu.

He said as a ministry through Zimparks, they have been able to source money to fund development projects such as construction of Bambadzi and Malalume clinics which are awaiting commissioning.– @ReeSibanda
