Minister raises over $100k for Redcliff

LOCAL Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister July Moyo has raised over $100 000 for Redcliff, which is expected to mitigate perennial water woes bedevilling the cash-strapped municipality, among other things.

The money was raised through a dinner held in Gweru on Saturday, which was organised by the minister, who also chairs the Redcliff Development Association.

Major contributors included zanu-pf candidate for Shurugwi South, Cde Edmund Mukaratigwa who donated $15 000, Cde Larry Mavhima and Clever Pote of Pote Holdings among others.

Some of the organisations who donated money were Dendairy, Flame Lilly, FC Platinum, King Solomon, Boldgas, Mathew Sibanda and Org technology.

Part of the money is expected to be used to drill boreholes in Redcliff to partially address the water challenges. Redcliff Town Clerk, Mr Gilson Chakauya said Redcliff was facing serious water challenges and the donation will go a long way in addressing the water and many other challenges. Mr Chakauya applauded Minister Moyo for a timely intervention to ensure the people of Redcliff have access to cleanwater.

“Our problems started when some of the major companies operating in Redcliff such as Zisco closed down. Our revenue dwindled. We are now facing water challenges in our town and this initiative is noble. I would want to thank Minister Moyo for organising this function so that the water problem is addressed,” he said.

Speaking at the same gathering, Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando, who was the guest of honour said Government was committed to improving the livelihoods of the people through increasing gross domestic product and per capita income.
