THE Ministry of Health and Child Care is working tirelessly to ensure that the Sanyati community is saved from anthrax after 18 people tested positive after eating diseased carcasses.

The positive cases were reported in eight villages in Ward 18. The first case, of a 21-year-old male, was recorded in October last year in Kusi Village.

Provincial medical director, Dr Celestino Dhege said all systems had been activated since then.

No positive or suspected cases have been recorded within the past 24 hours with a recovery rate of 100 percent in all the 18 suspected cases.

The disease had spread to Kusi, Katsuro, Ndaba, Dangaiso, Madhodha and Maguhwe villages.

“All cases are being managed according to the current Essential Medicines List for Zimbabwe (EDLIZ), treatment protocols and Anthrax Control guidelines of Zimbabwe and World Health Organisation at our health facilities, namely Sanyati Hospital Sanyati ARDA and Geja rural health clinic,” said Dr Dhege.
