adminIn an interview, Midlands Provincial Administrator Ms Cecilia Chitiyo said her office had also asked the acting town secretary, Mr Max Mugandani, to also submit a report on the same issue.
“Following reports of the residential stands scam and the subsequent arrest of Zvishavane Town Council chairman (Councillor Alluwis Zhou) and the acting director of Housing and Community Services (Mr Abie Phiri), we have requested the Zvishavane DA and the acting town secretary for Zvishavane, Mr Mugandani, to give us reports so that we can decide on the way forward,” she said.
Ms Chitiyo said after going through the reports, she will determine whether or not to recommend a full scale investigation into the operations of Zvishavane Town House to the Minister (Dr Ignatius Chombo).
“The report will also help us to determine whether we should seek full council backing of the suspension of the chairman and the director of Housing Services to pave way for investigations, if the need arises,” she said.
Clr Zhou and Mr Phiri were arrested about two weeks ago over allegations of abuse of office.
The two who are out on $50 bail each are also accused of corruptly allocating stands to their friends without following proper council procedures.
The arrest of Clr Zhou and Mr Phiri is said to have resulted in many council employees applying for leave in a bid to escape police investigations.
