Minor dies, siblings seriously injured as lightning burns hut to ashes

FOUR siblings were struck by lightning while hiding from the rain in a thatched kitchen leading to the death of a male juvenile while others aged 9, 13, and 15 were injured.

In a statement on X, police said the incident occurred on 15 December 2023 in Chitsuku Village, Marange, Mutare.

The hut burned to ashes.

The injured were admitted to Victoria Chitepo Hospital.

“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which a male juvenile (11) died whilst the victim’s siblings aged 9, 13 and 15 were injured after being struck with lightning while hiding from the rain in a thatched kitchen hut on 15/12/23 at Chitsuku Village, Marange, Mutare. The kitchen hut was burnt to ashes. The injured are admitted at Victoria Chitepo Hospital,” reads the statement.
