Minors must be at school not in marriage, says apostolic leader

AN apostolic church leader has urged members of his church and other apostolic sects to abolish the tradition of marrying off underage girls saying minors belong in school.

Madzibaba Prophet Emmanuel Mutumwa of the Johanne Masowe WeChishanu, in an interview while leading members of his church on a walk from the shrine in Emganwini along Plumtree road to Nketa 6 in Bulawayo said girls should have equal opportunities with boys.

The walk was aimed at encouraging the Bulawayo community to pray for the fortunes of the country and for peace.

“I tell members of my church that young girls belong in school and that in as much as we want to inculcate our religion in them, we must empower them with education so that they are better equipped to take on the world and to spread the gospel as they would be enlightened. Gone are the days that vapositiori would be known for marrying young girls,” said Madzibaba Mutumwa.

“As we are walking today, we are calling for peace among the people of Bulawayo and we are encouraging everyone regardless of political orientation, to unite in prayer for the healing of our nation.”

He said he saw in a vision that the fortunes of the country were bound to change and the country would regain its former glory.

“I was shown a vision when I prophesied last year that things will be hard towards the end of the year 2018. It was written in some media houses. I also told them that that would mark the beginning of the end of Zimbabwe’s troubles. We need to pray harder for our land because God showed me in a vision that better days are nigh. People from far and wide in other countries would be coming to look for greener pastures in this country because we are a blessed nation.”

The church leader encouraged Zimbabweans to be wary of prosperity gospel churches and said prayers at his church were given for free to both the poor and the rich.

“As we choose where we fellowship, let us not be fooled by the gospel that is being preached today. God is still God even if we are poor and struggling, through the mountains, the valleys, the trials and the blessings, He is God. Prayers from church leaders must never come with price tags,” said Madzibaba Mutumwa. — @andile_tshuma.
