A stunning goal straight from a corner kick silenced MWOS at the Heart Stadium yesterday, as Yadah snatched a dramatic 1–0 win that sparked tempers and shook up the Castle Lager Premiership title race.
MWOS’ defeat handed Simba Bhora the summit after their 3–2 thriller over Herentals at Rufaro, another twist in a pulsating title chase.
The defining moment came early in the second half. Terrence Daka, with precision and audacity, bent the ball directly into the net from the corner flag. MWOS keeper Francis Tizayi could only watch. A goal like that doesn’t just win matches, it becomes folklore.
Yadah, often overlooked, looked anything but underdogs. With a core of loanees from Scottland, King Nadolo, Timon Mvula and Innocent Muchaneka, they played with swagger, grit, and belief.
In contrast, MWOS lacked their usual bite. Not even the late introduction of last week’s hero Everson Feremba could salvage them. Billy Veremu and Arthur Banda showed flashes, but the equaliser never came.
After the match, coach Lloyd Mutasa was measured in his assessment but didn’t shy away from the reality.
“We always knew we’d drop points at some stage. It’s a wake up call,” Mutasa told Zimpapers Sports Hub. “What makes a strong team is how you respond. The emotions after the match? I warned the boys not to get dragged into anything. Football should stay a beautiful game.”
The defeat also exposed questions around MWOS’ squad depth, a gap they’ll need to close quickly.
“It depends on how ongoing negotiations go,” Mutasa added, hinting at possible signings. “But we’re not panicking. We’ve got a group of youngsters we believe in, and they’ll get their chance.”
Yadah, meanwhile, could’ve wrapped it up before the break. Evans Rusike and King Nadolo both missed clear chances. Still, coach Takaendesa Jongwe was all smiles after sealing three crucial points.
“What matters is the win. We’ve been playing well, even when results haven’t followed,” he said. “That goal? A bonus. Daka is always dangerous from corners. Funny thing, we practiced them all day yesterday, but not once did he score!”
In a title race this tight, one flash of brilliance is all it takes to shift the landscape. And thanks to Daka’s magic, it’s Simba Bhora who now sit in the driver’s seat.
