ACCOUNTING student, Audrey Rumbidzai Chidziva had all what it takes to be coroneted this year Miss Pacesetter (formerly Miss Poly) in a tightly contested and blissful beauty pageant held at the college last Friday.Equally gorgeous Faith Kapondo (18) was crowned first princess, while curvaceous Rufaro Ndagurwa (19) was second princess in a contest that saw 15 models battling it out for the coveted prize.
Natalie Mazarira was Miss Personality, while Tanaka Gwatimba was crowned Mr Pacesetter.
Although they were some notable glitches that nearly spoiled the pageant, for instance poor sound system, the pageant stands as one of the well-organised and well-attended event ever held at the college.
The presenters led by the elegantly dressed and bubbly Lee-Sharon Makanda also added a sparkle with some lively presentations.
The three adjudicators suffered a torrid time to come up with the crème de la crème especially in the last eight segment.
Dance group, Reflections, among other groups provided entertainment before, within and after the pageant.
Villain of the night, however, turned out to be rising dancehall chanter, Ricky Fire whose stage performance was below par and less convincing.
He initially blamed the PA system before he failed dismally to rise to the occasion. His hit song, Ndiratidze zvaunoita, however, proved to be the crowd’s favourite.
Audrey, in an interview after the pageant, said she was over the moon to have won the prize considering the stiff competition that characterised the contest.
“I am obviously delighted to have won this. It was not easy, but I am glad I managed to make it,” she said.
Faith shared the same feelings saying she was elated to have been part of the top winners.
Rufaro said although she started off with confidence on its lowest ebb, she managed to pick herself up and fought hard for the prize.
“I was scared but I managed to be confident. I was surprised and at the same time happy,” he said.
The college’s Student Representative Committee president, Edgar Mhangara, paid tribute to various stakeholders who made the event a success.
“The event was made successful by various stakeholders such as Africa Sun Amber Hotel, Golden Peacock, Mutare Bottling Company and
Delta Beverages as well as the college principal, Poniso Watema and her staff.
“We are doing our best to make a mark in academic, sporting, entrepreneurial excellence as well as edutainment,” he said.
