All is set for this month’s Miss Rural Zimbabwe beauty pageant launch in Harare.
The pageant founder Sipho Mazibuko has called on sponsors to support the 300 aspiring models, who will have the opportunity to open personal business bank accounts.
The competition will feature 30 talented models from each province, comprising 20 females and 10 males, all vying for the coveted title to represent their respective provinces in the national finals.
Mazibuko told The Sunday Mail Online that she was looking for two female models from each province and one male model each.
“We want to drill boreholes at the home of each of the provincial queen and king and the aim of Miss Rural and Mr Rural is to empower these rural models despite their backgrounds,” she said.
“We are introducing Mr Rural to create gender equality and fulfil President Mnangagwa’s mantra of leaving no place behind and no one behind.
“Each province will have an office where the other contestants who participated and didn’t win will become Ambassadors for the pageants when it comes to identifying problems affecting rural communities, especially the youth.
“Since they’re on the ground they’re the first to know of sexual abuse and early marriage victims and even the vulnerable who need help with education fees and even sanitary pads hence the need for an official sanitary pad company.”
Mazibuko highlighted that the National Arts Council gave them a letter of support and that they were working with line ministries that dealt with the lives of rural young women and men.
