THE Miss World Zimbabwe finale, which had been postponed to May 2 to make way for the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) running from April 21 to 25, has reverted to its previous date, April 25 after ZITF was also postponed.
Organisers of the pageant, the Miss Zimbabwe Trust, said Miss Zimbabwe World delegates would now be expected to travel to Harare on March 17 ahead of their month-long boot camp where a plethora of activities have been lined up.
Miss Zimbabwe Trust spokesperson, Tendai Chirau said the finalists would have to finance their travelling expenses to and from Harare as the Trust would only cater for their accommodation and welfare in the capital.
“The models have to look for bus fare as we won’t be giving them transport money, but we’ll provide them with accommodation and take care of their needs here,” Chirau said.
He said 91 delegates were expected for boot camp though only 30 would be selected to contest for the finale on April 25 at Mermaid Pool Resort in Shamva.
Bulawayo has the highest number of participants with 32 models expected to join camp with Harare being represented by 27 beauties.
Chirau said camp would be no honeymoon as the models would be evicted after every three days.
“During camp, the girls will be taught how to walk, carry themselves and be equipped with life skills among other things. They’ll be monitored and assessed periodically.
“Those who’ll fail to grasp the concepts will be evicted from camp after every three days. Those who’ll misbehave will be sent packing instantly as we want to crown a probity queen this year and won’t tolerate those who misbehave,” he said.
Chirau added that a lot of activities had been lined up for their camp including visits to charity institutions, mines and national institutions. They will also have debates.
Those who will make it for the finale (Miss World Zimbabwe finalists) will be announced on April 16 ahead of a Miss World Zimbabwe sashing ceremony in Harare on April 17.
A Road to Miss World Zimbabwe reality show is expected to hit ZBCtv screens next month as a build up to the finale.
“The Miss World Zimbabwe auditions and everything that we’ve been doing is being filmed by ZBC who will then package the material for the Road to Miss World Zimbabwe programme. We expect it to air a few weeks before the pageant,” Chirau said.
Ticket prices for the finale will be announced later as organisers are still deliberating. Last year’s tickets could not be afforded by many as they went for $300.
