Newly-crowned Miss Zimbabwe Thabiso Phiri and her first princess Tendai Hunda on Saturday donated goods to Mashambanzou Trust Care in Harare.
Phiri and Hunda who were accompanied by Miss Zimbabwe Trust chairperson Mary Chiwenga first donated at Nenyere Day Care Centre in Mbare before handing over goods to Mashambanzou in Waterfalls.
Nenyere Day Centre houses orphans and vulnerable children while Mashambanzou accommodates people living with HIV.
Phiri, on her first assignment since she was crowned Miss Zimbabwe a week ago, said there was need to take care of orphaned children and people who are living with HIV.
She added that they had considered Nenyere which accommodates children because they are the bearers of the future.
“The future of the nation is in these children and there is need for us to keep on supporting them so that they work hard,” she said.
In her speech Chiwenga said the nation, particularly the corporate world, should support Miss Zimbabwe in her charity work.
“Let’s keep on supporting her in her charity work since it is also considered when she goes to Miss World in December,” said Chiwenga.
She thanked companies that assisted them with blankets and food for the donations.
“We want to thank companies that have assisted us with blankets and food to give to our beloved relatives who have fallen to these circumstances and our main hope is that Phiri will excel at Miss World,” she said.
Director of Mashambanzou Care Trust, Ivy Mudangandi, thanked the Miss Zimbabwe Trust for their love and care towards the organisation.
She said their relationship with Miss Zimbabwe was growing and thanked Chiwenga and her team for their support. Phiri is expected to visit a number of places with the next being Chingwizi camp in Masvingo, where she is expected to extend her hand to the people who were displaced by floods a few months ago.
