SOUTH Africa’s hip hop artiste Khuli Chana brought the house down on Saturday night at the Miller SoundClash Party held at the Glasshouse in Harare.
The Hape le Hape hit-maker showed why he is a multi-award winner in his home country with a top-notch performance. Khuli went on stage just after midnight as the closing act of the Las Vegas-themed party and did not disappoint the about 500 strong crowd. The Miller SoundClash party also featured performances by Zimbabwe’s DJs Rax and Raydizz, South Africa’s DJs Fresh, Euphonik, Knaves and Spectacular.
Khuli, clad in a black and white top, black matching jeans and a gold-studded belt, looked the part of a hip hop star. Revellers had earlier on danced themselves to a standstill because of the other South African acts and it was no surprise that some of them had taken their seats. As soon as Khuli went on stage, most revellers could not help but return to the dance floor and sing along to the star’s music.
Khuli performed tracks like Tswa Da and Hape le Hape for about 30 minutes. Khuli asked the crowd to join him in singing the songs and the crowd responded well, leaving many saying he was the best act of the night.
Those who stayed at home missed out on a great show as it had a world class set up. The organisers had promised to bring the feel of a Las Vegas club to Africa and they delivered with the setup of LED lighting, pyros, female Miller dancers and large TV screens. Upon entering the venue, one was greeted by red and blue lights with an ambient atmosphere that made one excited to be at the exclusive Miller party. Miller drinks were served on glowing stands. The stage had a big digital screen with transitional images of the Miller logo and on occasions there was a shot of cold smog.
If one wanted a breath of fresh air they could go outside to the eating area where there were wood and gas braziers to beat the chilly weather.
The show kicked off at 9PM with Raydizz on the decks showing why he won the Miller music challenge as he kept revellers on the dance floor. Next on stage was the duo of DJs Knaves and Spectacular with their set.
DJ Euphonik went on stage next with his strictly house set. King Euphonik, as he is affectionately known, played a mixture of new and old school house. DJ Fresh followed with a mostly electro house set including music that he produced. The Big Dog as Fresh is known by his followers clearly enjoyed his set as he could be seen dancing as he played music. Closing off the show was Raydizz’s friend DJ Rax who ushered revellers home and some to the after-party held at Sky Bar.
