SOUTH African-based Zimbabwean designer Spero Villioti has been chosen to make the dress that the winner of the Miss Zimbabwe pageant will wear at the Miss World Finals.Two other Zimbabwean designers, Madamme Chichi and Christians & Dominics have also been chosen to help in making other dresses.
The Miss Zimbabwe pageant has been pencilled for June 14.
Miss Zimbabwe Trust chairperson Mary Mubaiwa-Chiwenga told Chronicle that the designers would make the ethnic wear and the macramé.
Macramé is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting. Its primary knots are the square knot and forms of “hitching”: full hitch and double half hitches.
Next Monday, 26 contestants are set to go into a boot camp which ends a week before the pageant.
Mubaiwa-Chiwenga said the competition is still open to any contestant who meets the set criteria.
Girls who wish to participate in the Miss Zim Finals should be a minimum height of 1.72 metres, hip size of 99 centimetres and weigh not more than 60kgs.
Mubaiwa-Chiwenga the winner would be assisted in the beauty with a purpose project in time for her to submit it at Miss World. “We have a contingency plan in place and whoever wins Miss Zimbabwe will be involved in various charities for children living with any form of cancer,” she said.
Miss Zimbabwe Bulawayo licence holder Sarah Mpofu expressed confidence that Miss Bulawayo, Mellisa Chaka and other girls from the city would impress.
“The girls will do their best and the city proud. They have been going up and down to Harare for casting interviews and so on. They have been preparing since last year but some had lost hope, however since there is a date they will gain their confidence,” said Mpofu.
Miss Bulawayo 2013 first princess Michelle Tembo and Marble Nyathi are set to represent Bulawayo.
