The official prizegiving ceremony for this year’s winners of the Miss Zimbabwe pageant will be held on March 17 in Harare, an official from the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has said.
Speaking at a Press briefing, Karikoga Kaseke, the ZTA boss, said the authority would invite all the winners to Harare for the ceremony.
“We are going to invite all the winners to the official handover ceremony on March 17 and they will be attached to various departments. For the Miss Zimbabwe, she will get US$600 as her allowance and other prizes.
“She will also represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Word pageant,” Kaseke said.
He said Miss Zimbabwe 2011 Malaika Mushandu would be attached to the Rainbow Tourism Group.
“Rainbow Tourism Group asked Miss Zimbabwe to be attached to them and we have no problems with that.
“For winning the crown Malaika will get US$3 500 cash but the money will be given to her as monthly allowances of US$600,” he said.
He said Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Rumbidzai Mudzengerere, would represent the country at the Miss Tourism World and would be attached to ZTA.
The recently held Miss Zimbabwe pageant was graced by beauty queens from Botswana, Ghana, Namibia and Zambia. The beauties hailed the pageant and described it as a resounding success.
Charlotte Sika Quaquaring, Miss Tourism Ghana, commended ZTA for supporting the pageant saying it was rare for governments to be involved in pageants.
“ZTA is doing a splendid job in supporting the pageant. Other African countries must emulate what Zimbabwe is doing,” she said.
Nii Allotey BrewHammond, the organiser of Miss Tourism Ghana, showered praises on Kaseke and his staff for a successful pageant.
“We thank Mr Kaseke for a job well done and the hospitality we got from his team. The pageant was as spectacular as it was exciting,” he said.
Miss Namibia, Odile Gertze, said Zimbabwe was a beautiful country despite the negative publicity from the Western media.
“We have heard a lot of negative coverage in Western media and we are now convinced that what we see on television is not a true reflection of reality.
“The hospitality was amazing and the people are warm,” Gertze said.
