FIVE Budiriro 3 car guards have been arrested for murder.
The five attacked and killed Leon Thomas Jenje at the Budiriro 3 car park, when he was walking home to Budiriro 1 from a beer drink.
The guards mistook Jenje (37) for a thief and beat him to death.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed that five car guards were in custody for Jenje’s death.
“The victim, Leon Thomas Jenje , died after the suspects allegedly took turns to assault him with an electric cable, fists and a hoe, accusing him of being a thief. Investigations are underway.”
Yesterday Jenje’s friends and relatives marched and paraded his coffin, from Budiriro 1 to the Budiriro 3 car park, where he was killed.
His burial is set for today.
A close source said the residents were not happy about the incident since Jenje was visibly drunk and walking home.
“We are hurt because he was killed for walking through the car park. They should have seen that he was very drunk,” said the source.
“The guards attacked him without verifying whether or not he was a thief.
“They even stabbed him in the buttocks because, paakazobatsirwa nevamwe vanhu, ainge atori nemavanga ekuchekwa kumashure.
“After realising that they had killed Jenje, they informed a woman who stays across the road from the car park.
“The woman advised them to report to the police because she knew all of them.”
