AFTER leading ZIFA and COSAFA, as president, businessman Philip Chiyangwa says he wants to form a state-of-the-art sports academy, which will cater for different codes, at his Divaris Makaharis School.

The Divaris Makaharis School is set to open a high school, from next year, whose facilities will be used for the sports academy.

Speaking during a tour of the school yesterday, Chiyangwa said he had firm plans for a sports academy.

“We are grateful to the parents who attended today’s programme, where we invited them ahead of this weekend’s induction, and I am happy to announce our vision, which is to form a vibrant sports academy.

“Sport gives life opportunities to young people and we are delighted that we are going to take sport and academics seriously by forming a state-of-the-art sports academy.

“As someone who has football administration background, I hope we will have a prosperous academy, which will see us partner with some scouts based in Europe, and across the globe.

“Already, we have started to develop the sporting facilities and the school offers soccer, netball, tennis, swimming, rugby and athletics, among several others.

“We hope we will have more students, who are gifted in sport, when we embark on our high school journey.

“The idea is to give opportunities to talented students and we are hopeful we will achieve that.”

Divaris Makaharis primary school head, Kundai Nyagura, said they were happy with the introduction of the High School and it will help nurture talent, which is abundant.

“I am happy that we are able to have a high school starting next year and the idea to have a sports academy is a welcome move,” said Nyagura.
