Mixed fortunes for Zim Copa Coca-Cola team

collected their first set of maximum points when they beat Kenya 1-0. The all-important goal came in the 23rd minute through the boot of Thaboka Ncube.
The Teams were playing 20 minutes a-side.
After some clever passes by Zimbabwe, the ball was cleverly laid by captain Nyasha Chikazenga to an unmarked Ncube who beat his marker before his pile drive nestled into far corner of the net, beating goalkeeper Edwin Mukonwe.
Kenya were effective coming from the wings as most of their chances came from there but the final pass was dealt with easily by Zimbabwe centre backs Nqobile Moyo and Tapuwa Magumise.
Zimbabwe started the match strongly with vice-captain Chikazenga stamping his authority in the middle of the park with the support of Ishmael Ben, Ncube and Glyn Tandi.
With the match heading towards the end, Kenya came out of their shells and took the game to their opponents. Mohammed Said, Haron Nyakha and Omar Minyi were outstanding for the East Africans but they found Zimbabwe goalkeeper Paul Makotore in top form as he produced a number of top-drawer saves.
Zimbabwe coach Bekezela Mavundla said his players did not play their normal passing game. The Mzingwane High School coach wants his side to improve in defence.
Zimbabwe’s next match saw them resume their rivalry with Zambia and in the end the Young Chipolopolo boys emerged 2-1 victors right at the death as they had to come from behind.
Zimbabwe lost their last match 2-0 to Tanzania to sum up a bad day in the office for coach Mavundla. Tanzania scored through Edward Songo in the 5 minute and Basil Said in the 15 minute, to pick maximum points.
Action continues today with Zimbabwe’s playing Malawi in the morning before taking on CEWA in their second match in the afternoon and their last match is a cracker against powerhouse Nigeria.
