There have been mixed reactions from The Herald readers over Prophet Walter Magaya’s dressing at Sharon Macheso’s wedding held at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton. Magaya’s supporters believe there was nothing wrong with his attire as he is a simple man who is not given to the flamboyant affectations of fellow church leaders.
“I don’t see the wardrobe malfunction on the man of God. Prophet W Magaya is highly anointed and it is for that reason he drives a Mazda Demio not a Lexus nor Bentley.
“I’m not even surprised he doesn’t have a (fancy) chair in his ministry. We have been to those former big prophetic ministries and there are luxury couches for so called important people. Being a man of God does not mean one is mandated to wear a suit or designer wear.
“Change your focus on the other factors like the rate of deliverance and healing in ministries,” Neville wrote.
Another reader Child of Zion wrote: “By the way Prophet Magaya did not go there for a photo session, he rather went there to bless Sharon. And the blessing was in the mouth and laying on of the hand. He was not there for anything else!”
Although it was later clarified that Magaya was not the marriage officer but a guest there are many who still feel that he should not have turned up at a wedding, especially a society wedding at that in slippers and casual clothes.
Hacha Ndizvo wrote: “All in support of the Prophet here are misguided.
“Magaya just displayed a lack of taste bordering on the uncouth. Dressing is an age old fetish — where every occasion demands a certain type of dress code.
“Even in the old days a person would choose the best dumbu (skin/hide) for a wedding ceremony.
“Dressing like a street kid by a person who can well afford better clothing shows lack of respect for the bride and groom and their relatives.
“I can imagine how the wedding photos will come out. Twenty years from now when Sharon shows her wedding photos to her children they will remark ‘Ko iri blaz ndiyaniko iri?
“Magaya’s acolytes may love the hermit image that he is trying to portray here but the fact still remains that for an accession such as a wedding his dressing is badly out of place, taste and sync.
“Even the great Biblical Prophets did not appear before kings dressed as clowns and even Jesus was certainly not so badly dressed at the wedding at Cana. Do not defend the indefensible.”
Love J quoted Matthew 22 vs 11-12, the Parable of the Banquet and wrote: “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.”
Many have now taken to turning away inappropriately dressed guests at corporate and private functions as they are tired of people who ignore the dress code specified on invitations.
