Starbill in hunt for new coach

STARBILL are hunting for a new coach to replace Lloyd Chitembwe who has been “elevated” to the position of director of coaches in a restructuring exercise meant to improve results at the struggling Zifa Northern Region Division One side.
Officials at the club yesterday said assistant coach Prince Kadewere will be in charge of the team when they travel to Manyame for their match against Blue Swallows tomorrow.

However, Chitembwe was reported to be unhappy with the club’s decision to demote him, by way of a token promotion.

Starbill secretary-general Kudakwashe Mugari maintained that it was not a demotion.

“The new development coming is that we will be having a new coach, but we are still looking for one.

“There are interviews going on of which Lloyd is contributing. Lloyd is involved in the selection of the coaches.

“As for Ashley Rambanepasi and some of the senior players, they were offloaded. We just got a list from the technical team and the list of new players they wanted.

“By next week, around Monday, we should have finalised one or two things.

“We have a junior policy, we have Under-10s, Under-12s, Under-15s, Under-17s and Under-20s and Lloyd is an experienced coach and we wanted to maximise on his knowledge.

“We are number eight, halfway on the log, so results were coming. There was no problem but we are there to nurture talent and sell so we want him at our juniors,” said Mugari.

Chitembwe refused to comment.
