IGNATIUS Mketekete has temporarily quit golf and moved to South Africa where he is now formally employed. The top professional was home for the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open recently to cheer his countrymen. “I was not in the right frame of mind to take part in this year’s Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open, but I came to rally behind other local professionals. “I could not risk taking part in the event knowing pretty well that I was not going to perform well.

“Imagine I last held a golf club in October last year and you expect me to challenge the guys on the tour who play regularly?

“I am trying something new down South Africa and so far so good, I can’t complain.”

He said he will certainly make a comeback.

“I will definitely make a comeback once there is sound sponsorship and more tournaments. The corporate world should come on board and sponsor the locals,” he said.
