SELF-EXILED former leader of a splinter group of war veterans, Mr George Mlala’s property has been attached and will soon be going under the hammer for failure to pay rentals at a flat he used to occupy in the downtown part the city.
Mr Mlala, according to court records is in arrears of $1 304, dating back to 2018.
Property attached by the Sheriff of the High Court in Bulawayo includes a safe, four desks, a braai stand, 3-piece reed suite, scale, four crucibles, tong, nine gold moulds, steel filing cabinet, three office chairs and a warmer. Mlala was renting an apartment at a residential flat at Trust Building, run by HM Esat Trust, situated at corner 14 Avenue and Joshua Mqabuko Street in Bulawayo.
Mr Mlala was reported to have fled the country in November 2017 during Operation Restore Legacy, which ushered a new political dispensation. The police also launched a manhunt for him when seven tonnes of rice were found at the flat.
Mr Mlala, who was no stranger to controversy, had been fingered in a myriad of allegations, among them bribery scandals and also plotting the downfall of a businessman Mr Paul Evans, who was the proprietor of Golden Grill Fast Foods in Bulawayo, reportedly fled the country to Botswana in November 2017.
He reportedly briefly appeared at Plumtree Border Post in December 2017, where he was observed hiding in a car in which former Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko and his family was travelling. Mr Mlala was a close ally of Mr Mphoko. Mr Mlala was also among several Zanu-PF members who were being investigated by the Government for corruption.
