EVERTON Mlalazi, an award-winning gospel singer, is proving to be a trailblazer in the industry.

With his unwavering determination, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible, elevating the standard of gospel music in the country.

Despite his relatively short tenure, Mlalazi has made a significant impact. His innovative approach to album launches and concerts has redefined the genre, setting a new benchmark for others to follow.

As the founder and director of The Vine and Worship Therapy Choirs, Mlalazi has been a driving force behind the local gospel music scene.

His influence has not only been felt domestically but has also extended to regional and international audiences.

The singer’s pulsating compositions, ground-breaking music videos and electrifying album launches have not only solidified his reputation as a spiritual leader but have made him a composer of repute.

His innovative approach has challenged the status quo and inspired a new generation of artistes.

Over the years, Mlalazi has collaborated with renowned South African musicians such as Mabongi Mabaso, Mahalia Buchanan and the Grammy-award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir.

These partnerships have further elevated his profile and expanded his reach.

The “Pfugama Unamate” singer’s significant contributions to the gospel music scene and his growing influence were recognised at the eighth edition of the Christian Leadership and Impact Makers Awards (CLIMA) in Nigeria, held under the theme “The Rebirth”.

He brought great pride to the nation by winning two prestigious awards, namely Africa’s Best Male Artiste Award (for the second consecutive time) and the Africa Gospel Music Viewer’s Choice Award.

Mlalazi’s success was not limited to his own achievements.

His wife and manager, Gamuchirai, was also honoured with the Best Manager in Africa award. Additionally, Dorcas Moyo received the Africa Best Female Artiste Award.

“This is truly a blessing from God. Being acknowledged alongside some of the greatest gospel artistes in Africa is an incredible achievement. It fills me with pride to see our music reaching new heights,” said Mlalazi.

Last year, he faced formidable competition from some of the continent’s most prominent gospel artistes, including Dunsin Oyekan and Nathaniel Bassey (Nigeria), Joe Mettle (Ghana), Winnie Mashaba (South Africa), Janet Otieno (Kenya) and Mercy Chinwo (Nigeria).

In this year’s awards, he competed against GUC, Chris Morgan, Onos Ariyo, Preye Odede (all from Nigeria) and Ghanaian artiste MOG.

The composer and singer believes this is just the beginning of even greater achievements.

“I am deeply grateful for this recognition. Our goal now is to expand our reach to international platforms and awards. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all our fans for their unwavering support and for voting for us in such large numbers.”

Mlalazi not only received accolades but also had the opportunity to showcase his talents on stage at the awards ceremony.

Dorcas Moyo, who faced stiff competition from Nigerian artistes Mercy Chinwo and Yadah, Kenyan singer Janet Otleno, South African musicians Winnie Mashaba and Deborah Lukalu, was equally thrilled to receive the gong.

Moyo’s popularity has been steadily rising, with one of her popular songs “Ndipeiwo Mukana”, contributing significantly to her success.

Moyo expressed her surprise and gratitude for the recognition.

To continue her momentum, she promised to release more music videos and songs in the near future.

The CLIMA awards are a prestigious event that honours and celebrates the achievements of African artistes.

Established in 2017, these awards recognise the exceptional contributions of gospel musicians, clergymen and other talented individuals to the industry and the Christian community.
