Mliswa case: Witness illiterate

Kudakwashe Muzura (27) who was driving the vehicle that allegedly had its tyres deflated in the fracas that ensued at Zvimonja business centre on February 22 said he concentrated on his education up to Grade 1 before shifting focus to sports.

Defence lawyer Mr Musindo Hungwe assisted by Mr Ray Tsvakwi and Mr Kudzai Choga had asked Muzura to estimate the distance that was between him and Hurungwe East legislator Cde Sarah Mahoka during the alleged attack.

“I do not know how long a metre is because I did not go far with my education. So I cannot estimate the distance between me and Cde Mahoka during the attack,” he said.
Muzura said he was not sure when he eventually gave up on school completely. However, during cross examination by lawyer Mr Mike Mutsvairo, Muzura was asked how he obtained a drivers’ licence if he could not estimate distance considering that there was a section requiring people to know the braking distance.

Muzura said he could estimate the braking distance through experience which the defence said it meant either he did not have the licence or he was lying that he could not read or write.

He said his licence was either stolen or he lost it. However, the licence was listed among some of the items that went missing during the attack but were however returned together with money and a Zanu-PF beret.
