The trio has since gained so much respect on the local music scene with their blockbuster tracks “Wake Up”, “Party Yatanga” and “Zvidhori”.
In an interview, Tatea Da MC said the group was poised to represent the country at international level.
“I must say MMT is going to be the voice to the voiceless, our mission is to broaden and strengthen the Zimbabwe hip-hop platform showing other blocks the way to do things.
“We are not just a group, but rather we are a force that entertain, rap and re-dress social aspects through rap music. In short, we are social commentators,” said Tatea.
MC Cut, the group’s co-founder, said they were trendsetters for future hip-hop generation.
“Given the support we need by the corporate world and promoters, we have what it takes to break barriers for the local hip-hop scene. Our music touches on social issues and cuts across all age groups,” said MC Cut.
Since the group assembled back in August last year, the trio has not only shaken the hip-hop music scene, but their lyrical prowess which ranges from edu-entertainment to social ills earned them credibility of the emerging hip-hop culture within Zimbabwe.
So far, the group has stayed away from controversy and ensures they hit the right chords where ever they go. They have distanced themselves from “beef” and maintains a positive attitude towards their contemporaries.
MMT performed at several gigs in and around Harare including at Star FM’s popular monthly show called The Big Chill where they dazzled revellers. Their electric performance was also hailed by South African hip-hop star A.K.A, who described the group as the future of Zimbabwean hip-hop.
Other musicians have approached the MMT for collaborations, a sign that shows great artistry of the group.
Already, MMT is in the studio polishing their forthcoming album titled “MMT LP” to be released before year end. Featured on the upcoming 15-track album are dancehall chanter Smiley, Stunner, Boimac, Alvina, Xndr, Simba Tags and Youngnash.
Apart from the group’s projects, some of the members are also promoting individual studio projects. Tatea Da MC is polishing his album “H-town King” while, Mariachi will soon be releasing his mixtape.
There is more to look forward to from MMT as they have stepped up to re-define what Zimbabwean hip-hop is all about.
