MOB: Gogwe gets closer

after the show, My Own Boss executive producer Munyaradzi Hwengwere commended the team for their efforts.
“I am glad that the two teams have been more disciplined this week following last week’s mass dismissal which saw Knowledge Nyenyayi (24), Garikai Magwenzi (22) and Tapiwanashe Chikwinho (27) leave the show for alcohol abuse and rowdy behaviour.
“The teams have been more solid and this has been reflected by their success in this motoring task. The best team, however, had to win.”
Speaking after his team’s victory, Godwin said: “Our success in this task is attributed to our strong teamwork, innovation and leadership. Everyone is focused on the result and we went for it, except for that little moment where we missed Sandisiwe for a bit because she had some personal issues to deal with.
“But I am glad to say that when she came back she picked up the moment and joined the rest of us on our success path.”
The task, which was screened on Africa Unite between 6pm and 7pm and ZTV between 7pm and 8pm clearly showed the true leadership skills and business acumen of young man Godwin, while Raymond Mashari’s Team Explosives struggled to make any meaningful sense of the task.
The two teams were required to put up a Zimbabwe Motor Show in two different venues, invite guests and push volumes on behalf of Zimbabwe’s leading motor assembly plants.
While Godwin’s team quickly went through its brainstorming session identifying Chapman Golf Club as an ideal venue for the motor show, Raymond’s charges were not equal to the task choosing a laid back catholic approach to coming up with a winning strategy.
Thesious Marufu (27) from Alkandros could not have been any smarter suggesting that the team holds its expo at a golf club because of the high net worth of the majority of golfers in the country.
The team’s strategy was also backed up by their ability to identify a golf club, which actually had a golf tournament on the day. Alkandros provided convenience by taking their vehicles to the people, while the Explosives failed to ignite deciding to have their expo in an exclusive location were human traffic was virtually non-existent.
The separation between the two teams was phenomenal. Chief mentor and judge Nigel Chanakira heaped praises on Godwin and his teammates Thesious, Odert Kosimoni (27) and Sandisiwe Mahlangu (28). Their deal making process impressed him and Willowvale Mazda Motor Industries managing director Engineer Dawson Mareya by selling 10 confirmed vehicles and getting “money in the bank” during their well- organised motor show.
The Explosives comprised of leader Raymond (26), Tafadzwa Munatsi (22), Thelma Chimbganda (23) and Tsitsi Murahwa (26) struggled to make any sales, chose a poor location for the motor show and had a low turnout.
Luckily for Bulawayo contestant Sandisiwe Mahlangu she was in the winning team otherwise she proved to be weakest player among all the eight contestants in this show.
She chose to be away most of the times dealing with personal issues only to return when her team was at an advanced stage of organising their victory.
Even then when she returned, her contribution towards the task was negligible as she slept through while her teammates made all the important decisions.
Viewers will recall that the first contestant to be booted out — Charlene Chekenya (21) — got her marching orders because she did not work with the team and even then she was executing her task, but in solitude.
When the boardroom came, it was clear that Alkandros were the clear winners leaving Team Explosives to burn in Nigel’s grilling session. Despite efforts to prove that the team worked as a team but only failed because the task was difficult, Nigel’s sharp probing skills proved that team dynamics, once again, were the main reason behind Explosives’ dismal performance.
Thelma took the walk of shame because of her inability to separate serious business stuff from what she called “jokes” and her insubordination.
She nailed her own coffin when she kept emphasising that she and team leader Raymond were “always at each other” during the task.
Once again, the cunning resolve of Tafadzwa was revealed when she nailed in the extra nails to Thelma’s coffin after she was asked about Raymond and Thelma’s relationship.
She revealed that indeed Thelma had “no love” for her boss Raymond and was often rude throughout the task. Although she performed really well, she lost her focus a number of times, compromising the team’s position in the process. Perhaps Thelma was still shaken by last week’s events when Tafadzwa clapped her.
Hopefully, we will be seeing Thelma next year on our TV screens as she auditions for Starbrite or even Idols. Instead of walking the so-called “walk of shame” she closed the show with a beautiful song which she shared not only with her fellow contestants but with viewers across Africa.
