UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe student and model, Adlaid Matutu (22), is defying stereotypes by balancing her passion for fashion with her dedication to her studies.

Matutu, who is studying Economics, hopes to use her platform to advocate for inclusivity and diversity within the fashion industry, and to empower aspiring models from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams.

Matutu’s handlers praised her determination and discipline, as well as her ability to excel both academically and in the fashion industry.

She has worked with renowned designers, photographers, and fashion brands and has graced numerous runway shows, fashion campaigns, and magazine covers.

“I am also aiming to break down barriers and challenge conventional beauty standards by empowering aspiring models from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

“While I have been privileged to work in this industry, it is important to remember that diversity and representation matter. I want to inspire other young women to pursue their passions without feeling limited by societal expectations,” Matutu said.

Born and raised in Chegutu, Matutu’s journey into fashion commenced at a young age when she was first exposed to the captivating world of modelling.

Blessed with a natural flair for fashion, she quickly gained recognition for her unique features and ability to effortlessly command the runway.

“Unlike many aspiring models who go all-in on their fashion careers, Matutu made the decision to simultaneously pursue her education.

“She does not let the rigours of academia dim her dreams of modelling success. Juggling lectures, assignments, and extracurricular activities, she maintains her radiant presence in the fashion industry.

“Her tenacity and ability to excel in both areas of her life have won her admiration from her peers and instructors alike,” said Nick Ncube, one of her handlers.

Her natural beauty, confidence, and poise have made her a sought-after muse for many fashion professionals in Zimbabwe.
