The recapitalisation and modernisation of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is a Government commitment through research, development and learning from friendly nations, the Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.
She is in Egypt for the third Egypt Defence Expo.
The expo is being held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah el Sisi in his role as Supreme Commander of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
He opened the exhibition on Monday.
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri is accompanied to the expo by Commander Defence Forces General Philip Valerio Sibanda and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Egypt Air Marshal (Retired) Shebba Shumbayaonda.
They have already held meetings with the Egyptian Minister of Defence and Military Production, General Mohamed Zaki.
The two Ministers signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the military fields and other areas of mutual cooperation that included military training and education, logistic services, military and war industries, military medicine, public affairs and sport, and cultural and social activities.
These will be implemented through exchange visits, working group and experts visits, students exchange training programmes and participation in conferences and business meetings.
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said Zimbabwe was participating at the expo to learn how to develop, modernise and mechanise the defence forces through partnerships and technology transfer in tandem with modern trends.
“Participation at this show is pursuant to the vision of the Second Republic on the recapitalisation and modernising the ZDF through defence equipment procurement innovation, research and development, technology transfer, joint ventures and partnerships with defence production industries of friendly nations,” she said.
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said Zimbabwe noted the immense contribution of Egypt’s armed forces in socio-economic activities through infrastructure development.
