Mohadi calls for peace in post-election period

CO-Home Affairs Minister Cde Kembo Mohadi has praised Zimbabweans for voting peacefully during Wednesday’s harmonised elections. He urged people to maintain the prevailing peace in the post-election period. In an interview yesterday Cde Mohadi said the police had been deployed across the country to deal with perpetrators of political violence regardless of their political affiliation.

“The situation is still under control and it is pleasing to note that everyone has taken heed of President Mugabe’s call for peace during and after the elections.
“I have just spoken to Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri and it is pleasing to note that we did not witness any chaotic incidents or breaches to the electoral laws during and after the voting process.

“Let me therefore warn those who are bent on orchestrating acts of violence that the police are ready to deal with such elements. We are aware that there will be celebrations when the results are officially announced and we are calling on people to do so responsibly and peacefully,” said Cde Mohadi.
He said Zimbabweans had shown maturity by voting in a peaceful manner.

Cde Mohadi retained his seat in the Beitbridge East National Assembly after garnering 10 151 votes beating his close rival Morgan Ncube of the MDC-T who polled 3 334 votes.

Cde Mohadi said the people had spoken and urged losing candidates to respect the poll outcome.
He said police were on alert and closely monitoring the situation.

“Generally we are happy that Zimbabweans have decided their own destiny in a peaceful manner and I believe that people will continue to live together in harmony.
“The people have spoken through the ballot and it is an honourable thing for political parties to accept the verdict,” he said.

Cde Mohadi said the just-ended plebiscite heralded a new era for Zimbabwe.
“We are very grateful that the Inclusive Government has come to an end. This will give us an opportunity to implement our own policies and programmes without any bickering as was the case,” he said.
