It was a full house at the double-billed Mokoomba welcome-back concert, featuring Vee Mukarati last Friday at New Ambassador Hotel rooftop. And the two bands gave an electric performance which lived up to the expectations and fans cheered them on.

This concert was to celebrate Mokoomba’s return to Harare after a highly successful North American tour, whose major highlight was a historic performance at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York.

Singer and Saxophonist, Vee Mukarati proved that he is surely one of Zimbabwe’s good contemporary composers and collaborators. He was accompanied by a talented ensemble, to give a high energy Jazz-based fusion full of life and love.

He opened the concert playing “Moto”, which is from his 2015 album, “Masaisai” and “Underwater Subway” from his upcoming album.

Vee Mukarati thanked his loyal fans for the overwhelming response and love for Jazz music that they have shown and it basically made it a perfect night for him.

Mokoomba manager Marcus Gora said he was just amazed by the turn-out for the welcome back concert and promised to keep on representing Zimbabwe.

“We are just thankful to God for the amazing talent that he blessed the group with. We thank fans for much understanding and appreciation of good music,” he said.

“I want to personally thank all the people who came out to welcome us to Harare but it is not about Mokoomba, it is about the Zimbabwean flag and with God we promise to keep raising it up high.

“We have taken this welcome back concert with Vee Mukarati, who gave an outstanding performance as our first step towards gearing up for our upcoming Europe tour once again this coming June,” said Gora.

Mokoomba will be one of the main acts to look out for at the upcoming Harare International Food and Music Festival slated for April 30 to May 1.
