A HARARE woman was granted a protection order against her abusive son by magistrate Rutendo Machingura.
Egnes Dumison’s application for a protection order against her son, Lloyd Sipho, was upheld. Egnes accused Lloyd of physical and verbal abuse, and labelling her a witch.
She revealed that her son shoves her around when he is drunk.
Egnes said her son has a habit of selling her cutlery and clothes to buy alcohol.
“When my son is drunk, he abuses me. What made me apply for a protection order was after he shoved me, I now fear for my life.
“He insults me and I have been forgiving, but I cannot forgive him after the last incident. The most painful thing is that when he is not drunk, my son is a loving child, but alcohol makes him a demon.
“Some weeks ago he insulted me, calling me a witch. I don’t know where I went wrong with my son,” Egnes said.
In his response, Lloyd asked forgiveness.
“I am asking for forgiveness. I was drunk.
“My only wish is for my mother to forgive me. I will change my ways,” said Lloyd.
However, magistrate Machingura granted the protection order in favour of his mother.
