Money is not everything: Bulawayo Chiefs

Nkosilodumo Ndebele .
NEWboys Bulawayo Chiefs have buttressed the point that money is not everything after the failure by the city council-bankrolled side, Bulawayo City to lure their coach Thulani Sibanda into their technical bench.

Bulawayo City is reportedly guilty of having tried to lure Sibanda after his impressive 4-1 victory over them before the PSL took a one-week break due to the harmonised elections.

The victory resulted in Amini Soma Phirias sacking.

a?Sibanda called me asking for a way forward after he was approached by City. He told me that it felt like betrayal to abandon Chiefs because he had been with the team from Division One and it was a huge project to just turn his back on,a? said Bulawayo Chiefs secretary general Dumisani Sibanda.

He added that although the team was going through a rough patch as they are facing monetary challenges, it would be a blind move to abandon the team.

a?We had warned our former goalkeeper Kevin Nyoni that it was not wise to leave the team because it was going through a torrid time but he didnat listen to us. He paid the price by being humiliated by his former teammates when they netted four goals against him in an encounter when we massacred Bulawayo City,a? he said.

Sibanda admitted that Bulawayo Chiefs fondly known as a?Amakhosi Amahlea? was a team yet to reach its prime; as such they would not spend much during the transfer window as they were failing to pay their players.

a?There is a lot of unexposed talent in the rural areas and we will be hoping to curb our financial challenges by scouting for our players there.

We donat want to find ourselves in a deeper financial predicament because of signing players we wonat afford in the local premier league,a?he said.
