Moolman under pressure

Her is already feeling the pressure of performing in the national colours.
This is not the first time that Moolman is representing Zimbabwe in the age-grade national colours having been part of the Under-13 side that took part at the Craven Week in Cape Town five years ago.

He was also part of the Under-18 side that last year was captained by the then Falcon College loose forward Leroy Sibanda and they went on to lose two of their three games in Port Elizabeth. The Peterhouse forward  feels that he was lucky to be part of the Zimbabwe side last year.

“There is always going to be pressure when you represent your country, coach (Godwin ‘Jaws’ Murambiwa) has told us that our first match is against Griquas so we are going to have to be on top of our game right from the start.

“I was lucky enough last year to play in the Zimbabwe Under-18 Craven Week team with, (Tapiwa) Muringani and (Brendon) Mandivenga and It was a great experience,” said the loose forward.

The Craven Week national selection games were held two weeks ago and Moolman is one of the eight players who retained their places in the Harare dominated side from last year’s 22. The others were Thabani Mujeni, Rukudzo Gona, Nicholas Burnett, Brendon Mandivenga, Tapiwa Murangani, Barend Moolman and Alexander Zwart .

It is this experience that Moolman feels is going to add weight to his side’s performance. Sebastian Roche and Brandon Scheepers were still eligible to play this year but they were left out.

Scheepers was left out due to knee injuries sustained three weeks ago while Roche was technically incompetent.

“There are about eight guys who played last year so we have got a little bit of experience in our squad,” he said.
