MOONLIGHT Funeral Assurance and Services Company is constructing a mortuary in Plumtree, the first to be opened in the border town.
Work on the project started last week and is set for completion by year end.
The facility will complement mortuary services at Plumtree District Hospital, which only accommodates nine bodies.
The company’s branch manager, Austine Sibanda, said they had more than 3,000 clients from Plumtree and surrounding areas who would benefit from the service. He said the new mortuary was being built using funding generated from the branch.
“We opened a branch in Plumtree in 2012 but we’ve been operating without a parlour. We then took it upon ourselves to construct a parlour after realising that our clientele base had grown,’’ said Sibanda.
He said the company was targeting the rural market in Mangwe and Bulilima as well as Plumtree town with subscribers paying $2,50 per month.
“The response that we’re getting from people is a sign that opening a funeral parlour in this town is long overdue. It was by the request of the people who pointed out that they needed their own parlour within the vicinity,” he said.
Sibanda said his company has added benefits to clients such as stabilisation allowances and installation of tombstones.
Moonlight Funeral Assurance and Services Company has 45 branches nationwide including Plumtree. The company won first place under the commerce section at the recently held Plumtree business expo.
Moonlight has also opened two branches in Tsholotsho and Hwange districts.
