adminThe duo has been invited for a 10-day trial period at the Bundesliga side following the tour by the Zimbabwe senior women’s soccer team to Germany two years ago.
And yesterday, e-Sport, a leading sports shop owned by former Zimbabwe international Edzai Kasinauyo, presented the players with tracksuits, traveling, training and kit bags and soccer boots to use in their trials in Munich.
Kasinauyo, who is a personal friend of Warriors’ coach Klaus-Dieter Pagels who organised the trip, also donated US$1 100 to the players for their daily allowances for the days they would be in Europe.
At a brief function at the e-Sport offices yesterday, Kasinauyo’s wife Faith urged the players to help put the Mighty Warriors on the world map.
“Well done girls for making it this far. It is great for the nation and, as women, you put us on the map and, more importantly, as African women. Go out there and do your best,” said Kasinauyo.
Edzai told the players that the exposure they will get was priceless and whatever will come out from the trials would be a bonus.
Zifa technical advisor and Warriors’ coach Pagels bought the airfares with his own funds.
“When the Mighty Warriors team went to Germany and played matches with teams from the Bundesliga, the clubs there were impressed,” said Pagels.
“And the only problem was sponsorship but I talked to Edzai who has been really helpful when we conduct our grassroots programmes and was able to come in handy with sports equipment and daily allowances.”
The players said they will do their best in Germany and were excited about getting this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
