More firms attain ISO certification

ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from over 140 countries.
The purpose of ISO is to promote the development of standardisation and related world activities to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to develop co-operation in intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.
ISO 2001:2008 compels companies to employ quality management systems that guarantee quality product or service.
Standards Association of Zimbabwe quality assurance director Mr Sebastian Zuze said the number of companies attaining ISO certification was likely to increase by 20 percent next year.
“It is encouraging that more companies are now seeking ISO certification as they want to make their products or services recognised globally although we have some who are still making short cuts,” he said.
“Generally, the improvement of the economy is actually making it possible now for companies to put in place systems required in order to be certified.”
SAZ, which is a member of the ISO, is also accredited by the South African National Accreditation System.
Research in developing countries has shown that companies that are ISO certified stand a better chance of securing new business as well as achieving superior returns on investment. — New Ziana.
