adminOn Tuesday evening the country received heavy rains with the maximum of 90 millimetres recorded at Ingutsheni in Bulawayo followed by Nyazura in Manicaland with 85mm, Belvedere in Harare with 70mm, Mount Darwin in Mashonaland Central with 67 and Goetz in Bulawayo with 57mm.
Met Department head of climate applications Tirivanhu Muhwati said this year rainfall would be slightly lower than last year during the mid-December season.
“Percentage of normal rainfall last year in most areas was in the normal to above normal range. This time it is normal to below normal range at this time of the year. This is in line with the seasonal forecast that the Met Department issued that October, November and December will receive normal to below normal rainfall,” he said.
Last year’s highest normal rainfall was 455mm recorded in Wedza compared to this year’s 361mm in Marondera during mid-December
Muhwati said forecast for the next 10 days showed that rains would continue up to Sunday across the country, thereafter starting to clear from the southern provinces.
He said rainfall would remain confined to the western and northern parts of the country. — New Ziana.
