THERE has been a sharp increase in the number of theft from car cases in the capital with losses reaching more than US$20 000 in the past two days.
This was revealed by acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Webster Dzvova.
Eleven motorists lost cash and valuables worth more than US$20 000 in the last two days.
“Police are investigating 11 cases of theft from motor vehicles recorded on Tuesday and Wednesday only,” said Ass Insp-Dzvova.
“Police have increased visibility in various places in an effort to bring the suspects, breaking vehicle window panes, to book.
“We are urging motorists to remove all their valuables from their vehicles whenever they park for business as well as not leaving cash.
“Thieves target visible items in parked cars.
“It is advisable to carry your laptops and pocket your cash whenever you park your vehicles.”
Among the victims were Charles Kambadza, 43, of Alexandra Park. who lost US$7000, Verido perfumes, three pairs of garments and watch belts after leaving his vehicle parked along Chiremba Road in Braeside.
Prince Mutarisi, 35, of Msasa Park, lost a Teccno Spark cellphone and US$200 cash, after leaving his vehicle parked and locked at the corner of Simon Muzenda Street and Baines Avenue.
Nelson Ngungu, 39, a teacher at a school in Murewa lost a satchel with stationery and cooked food after parking his Nissan Elgrand in the parking bay at Jam Tree Soccer Grounds in Mt Pleasant.
He had just dropped kids off for soccer training.
Charmaine Njenjera (24) of Pomona lost an HP laptop core J5 worth US$500 after leaving her Honda Fit parked at Belgravia Sports Club.
