More woes for Rahman Gumbo

Ricky Zililo, Senior Sports Reporter

WOES are mounting for former Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo who suffered his fifth defeat of the season in the Botswana Premier Soccer League as his Sua Flamingoes side went down 3-2 away at Eleven Angels on Saturday.

The multi-championship winning coach has managed just one win out of six games and his side are swimming in relegation zone, being third from the bottom of the table on position 14 with three points.
Sua Flamingoes are 13 points behind leaders Jwaneng Galaxy and Gumbo, who has won championships in Botswana, Zimbabwe and Malawi will be hoping that they turn the tide soon and move out of the relegation zone.

Not even the presence of veteran Zimbabwean striker Domic Chungwa has helped Sua Flamingoes who have managed to score four goals in six outings while they have conceded nine times.

Gumbo’s side’s only win was registered on match day three when they edged Morupule Wanderers 1-0. The result was followed by a 1-0 away defeat to Police XI, the home’s 2-0 loss and the weekend narrow downfall to Eleven Angels.

Sua Flamingoes’ poor run might come to a halt when they play host to table anchors Holy Ghost on Sunday.

While Gumbo was left wondering on how he can turn around his team’s fortunes, ex-Zifa technical director Taurai Mangwiro registered his second victory in Botswana as he inspired Orapa United to a big 4-1 triumph at home against Morupule Wanderers.

Orapa United’s win which comes after their midweek 2-1 away victory at Extension Gunners in Lobatse, takes their points tally to 12 in six games. They are three points adrift of leaders Jwaneng Galaxy who edged Police XI 2-1.

Another Zimbabwean gaffer in the Botswana Premiership, Philani “Beefy” Ncube went for a third weekend without a win as his Nico United narrowly lost 1-0 away at Security Systems.

The defeat to Security Systems saw Nico sliding a place down the ladder to position 10 with seven points in six outings.

Before Saturday’s defeat, Nico United had suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to former champions Township Rollers before managing to bounce back with a 0-0 draw against Mogoditshane Fighters.

Meanwhile, former Highlanders coach Mandla Mpofu’s Masitaoka were billed for a late encounter against second from the bottom BDF XI at Lobatse Stadium yesterday. — @ZililoR
